“I chose to become a lawyer because I love being a part of something bigger — the system that governs how we all live. I’ve focused on family law because it gives me the chance to connect with people in a meaningful way, helping them navigate the legal system to solve problems.”
An experienced litigator, David Zwaska offers his family law clients the legal insight and practical guidance they need to protect their interests as they move through difficult times.
David practices all areas of family law, including divorce, allocation of parental responsibilities, child support, maintenance, visitation, domestic violence, paternity and post-decree matters. His experience advocating for clients throughout the Chicago area includes researching and writing a brief to the Illinois Supreme Court in a 2014 case involving whether a custodial parent could be ordered to pay child support [In re Marriage of Turk] and drafting five briefs to the Illinois Appellate Court on other family law issues.
During law school, David clerked for Cook County Circuit Court Judge Raul Vega in the Domestic Relations Division, where he researched family law matters and drafted orders for pro se litigants. He also completed summer internships at Chicago Volunteer Legal Services, where he handled divorce, adoption and guardian ad litem cases, and Illinois Legal Aid Online, where he created online civil procedure forms and webcasts to help pro se litigants understand appellate court procedure.
For his dedication to community service, David won the Senior Service Award for Distinguished Service to DePaul University College of Law and the Chancellor’s Award for Service for completing over 100 hours of pro bono service during law school. He continues this service by co-chairing the membership committee of Illinois Legal Aid Online’s Young Professionals Board.
